14th Street is scheduled to be closed from Fletcher to Humphrey March 5–June 29, 2012.
This project consists of improving 14th Street from the Fletcher Avenue to Alvo Road. Planned improvements for the new street include the following:
- 14th Street will be widened to two lanes in each direction with a center median between the Interstate 80 bridge and Alvo Road.
- Left- and right-turn lanes will be built at the intersections of 14th Street with Julesburg Drive, Humphrey Avenue and Fletcher Avenue.
- A two-lane roundabout will be built at the intersection of 14th and Alvo.
- A bike trail will be built on the west side of 14th from the I-80 bridge to Humphrey, and sidewalks will be built on the remaining portions of the project.
Work is scheduled to begin in mid to late February and will require road closures on 14th Street throughout construction. The construction will be completed in several phases. The first phase includes building drainage structures south of Humphrey along with the 14th St. and Humphrey Intersection. This intersection will be phased to allow traffic to be maintained on Humphrey Avenue. The second Phase will include roadway work from Fletcher Avenue to Humphrey. Access to the acreages on the west side of 14th will be maintained throughout the construction of this phase. Phase 3 will move to the north side of the project between Julesburg Dr. and Alvo Road. This work will not begin until after the 2012 school year and will be complete before school begins again in the fall. The last phase will connect the completed pieces of roadway between Humphrey and Julesburg and is not scheduled to be complete until late fall 2012. The roadway is scheduled to be open to traffic from Fletcher to Alvo Road by November 21, 2012, with a final completion date for the project of May 30, 2013.
