"P" St. Streetscape Project

11th Street to Centennial Mall

March 28, 2014 Construction Update

Construction activities continue to increase as the contractor is able to take advantage of the spring weather. Work is currently taking place along the south side of the street from 11th Street to 14th Street. As always, please remember that all businesses remain open throughout the course of the project. Sidewalk closures do continue to change on a regular basis so please pay attention to the pedestrian routing that is in place when trying to access a particular business.

A limited number of trees will be removed along the length of the project over the weekend. These are necessary to make way for new planting beds that will have trees restored in them after the project is complete. These planting beds are designed to encourage more natural and healthy tree growth and will help to complement the entire streetscape.

Work along the street between 11th Street and 12th Street has focused on the backfill of planting beds and bioretention areas. The sidewalk pavers have also been nearly completed in front of the movie theatre. A small amount of work at the southwest corner of 12th Street needs to be completed on a storm drain connection.

Work along the south side of the street from 12th Street to 13th Street continues with the increase in ground temperatures. A large portion of sidewalk around the southeast corner at 12th Street was poured on Friday, March 28, and will be reopened to foot traffic as soon as possible. Sidewalk pavers in that area are expected to be installed on April 4. Backfill of planters and bioswale areas will also take place during the next couple of weeks. One additional closure of the sidewalk between 12th and 13th Streets will need to take place next week to complete sidewalk and driveways through this block. Work at the southwest corner of 13th Street will also move forward to complete the curb ramps, planting areas, and a bioswale.

The contractor has pushed forward with sidewalk work between 13th and 14th Streets. When this work is completed it will allow the contractor to maintain a pedestrian corridor, with access to all businesses, while they complete the more in depth work with the underground silva cells and parking setback areas. They also continue work at the southwest corner of 14th & "P" Street on the relocation of pedestrian heads, sidewalk, landscape curb, and roadway pavement. Access is still being maintained to all of the businesses. Please be aware of the pedestrian routing and continuing changes to the sidewalks around this area.

The sidewalk on the east side of 14th Street from "O" to "P" Streets has also been undertaken. When this work is completed it will also allow the contractor to maintain a pedestrian corridor, with access to all businesses, while they complete the more in-depth work with the underground silva cells and parking setback areas.
