Project Background
Construction of Phase I of the Beal Slough Relief Trunk Sewer project is underway. Phase I is the first phase of a multi-phased and multiyear project for providing additional capacity necessary to meet current and future growth in the Beal Slough basin. This relief trunk sewer adds 60-inch, 36-inch, and 30-inch diameter piping that runs parallel to an existing line.
Work Completed Through September 2006
- Construction on Phase I began in Spring 2006 on the west at the Salt Valley Trunk Sewer (SVTS) just west of the State Penitentiary and south of Pioneers Boulevard at the old abandoned Union Pacific right-of-way.
- 60-inch pipe direct-jacked under BNSF Railroad on west end of project.
- Dairy Hill excavated for sewer installation south of State Penitentiary.
- Started construction of connection structure to SVTS at west end of project.
Work Anticipated for October
- Complete construction of connection structure to SVTS on the east side of the BNSF tracks.
- Installation of approximately 300 LF of 60" sanitary sewer from the SVTS Connection Structure to the south.
- Begin installation of the 36" sanitary sewer east from the SVTS Connection Structure.
- Tunnel underneath 14th Street.

- Roadway crossings at 14th Street, Southwood Drive, and 27th Street to be tunneled. No disruption to the traveling public.
- Total Project Cost: $ 6,925,000 (Estimated)
- Construction Contract Cost: $5,725,416.20
- Funding: Sanitary Sewer Revenue Funds
- Percentage of Project Completion: 5% (as of 9/15/06)
