Construction Update – April 2008
Deadmans Run Stream Bank Repair
Project No. 502009

Construction is nearing completion on a project to repair erosion on the west bank of Deadmans Run, just north of Cornhusker Highway, to protect the wastewater force main close to the bank. Work on the project began in February 2008.

The repairs are located just north of the current channel liner where the Creek crosses underneath Cornhusker Highway east of N. 27th Street.

Two wastewater outfall force main lines (24 inch & 36 inch diameter) from the N. 31st Wastewater Lift Station parallel the west bank of Deadmans Run.

The lift station serves the Little Salt wastewater basin that is generally located to the north and west of Salt Creek, and areas north toward Interstate 80. Bank erosion had progressed to within 8 to 10 feet of the nearest force main, and repair was necessary to prevent future erosion and protect the force main from possible failure.

Construction repairs include: soil excavation to remove and replace the eroded bank; repair of two storm drain outlets; installation of steel sheet piling and protective rock rip-rap surfacing to a new, more stable bank slope; final earthen sloping and seeding of the bank and areas disturbed by the construction.
