Selected replacement projects are those that are done in order to maintain the current wastewater infrastructure. There are several types of projects as follows:
- Manhole Rehabilitation
- Manhole rehabilitation consists of reestablishing a manhole's integrity by fixing or plugging any groundwater leaks and relining the inside of the manhole to provide a monolithic inside surface.
- Open Trench
- Open trench replacement is a full dig-up of an entire pipeline in order to install a new pipe.
- Point Repairs
- This is an excavation of a 5' length of pipeline in order to fix one small area.
- Pipe Bursting
- Pipe bursting is the process of putting a hydraulic head into the pipe line, which when activated busts the old pipe apart, while at the same time pulling in a new pipe to replace it. The advantages of this process is to mimimize some the of the surface disruption and to increase pipe size if warranted.
- Cured in Place Piping (CIPP)
- CIPP is the process on inserting a pipe sock, inpregnated with resin, within an existing pipe and then curing the sock with heat until it forms a structurally hard and solid pipe conforming to the interior of the existing pipe. The advantages of this process are: no surface disruption from excavating, the process restarts the life cycle of that particular pipe segement and fixes any structural defect like cracks or root intrusion.
