Construction of Phase 2 of the Stevens Creek Trunk Sewer is underway. This project is the second phase of a multi-phased project for providing sanitary sewer service to meet future growth in the Stevens Creek Basin on the east side of the City. The phased project is included in the Wastewater Capital Improvements Program (642 K)
.
Phase 2 begins at the end of Phase 1, just east of N. 84th Street, near Stevens Creek and just south of Fletcher Avenue. The line extends to the southeast along the west side of Stevens Creek across Havelock Avenue and ends just south of the Murdock Trail. A future Phase 3 project will connect to the end of this line and continue up the basin to the south.
This Phase of the trunk line is 66 inches in diameter. The open cut trench method is being used to install the pipe. Located along the line are several manholes (access locations) and a junction structure which are designed to provide for access and accept future wastewater flows from smaller collector lines that will serve the drainage areas along the route of the trunk sewer.
This project is a continuing effort to provide wastewater service to the Stevens Creek Basin and protect the environment and public health, as future growth and economic development occurs in this area of the City.
This project is funded by a combination of Federal American Recovery and Recovery Act (ARRA) Stimulus Grant and zero interest loan; Nebraska Dept. of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) State Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (CWSRF); and, Lincoln Sanitary Sewer Utility Revenues. The ARRA grant and lower interest rates for the ARRA and CWSRF Loan Funds are estimated to save the City's Wastewater System an estimated $140,000 per year for 20 years.
