Public Works/Utilities Department
Traffic cameras are used for traffic management use only. They are not used for law enforcement. They allow for real-time monitoring of congestion at intersections and along corridors. With the real-time monitoring, we are able to direct and re-route traffic as needed to keep traffic flow.
We cannot determine who is driving or read the license plates off the vehicles. This is strictly used for traffic management. You may have already noticed small camera devices in and around the City of Lincoln. Some of these are cameras, and some are devices installed for use by emergency vehicles. In emergency situations, the emergency vehicles can activate the device mounted on top of the traffic light, which allows them to safely maneuver through the intersection.
Additional cameras will be installed in various locations around the City of Lincoln. Look for these cameras to be added to this site in the future. Also see: NDOR: Nebraska Highway Cameras
