Stormwater Improvement Bond Issue
On May 1, 2007 voters approved an $8.5 million bond issue to finance projects that will reduce flooding, improve water quality and rehabilitate eroding streams. It is estimated that the bond issue will cost the owner of a $138,000 home in Lincoln an additional $6.26 in property taxes annually (assuming current interest rates). Lincoln does not charge its residents a stormwater utility fee that many other cities use to finance maintenance and improvements. The City generally places bond issues every other year to fund needed projects instead of using general fund dollars.
