Background:
The local workforce investment area consists of the City of Lincoln and the counties of Lancaster and Saunders. The Mayor of Lincoln serves as the Chief Elected Official and appoints the local Workforce Investment Board. The majority of the Board=s membership is from the business sector. Other members represent education, economic development, community based organizations, organized labor, and program partner agencies. In partnership with the Mayor of Lincoln, the Board develops the local area plan, determines goals and priorities for workforce development, and oversees the local one stop career center delivery system.
The One Stop Career Center was established in 2000 and is located at 1010 N Street, Lincoln. The City of Lincoln, Urban Development Department, is the One Stop Operator. Partners within the One Stop System include the Client Assistance Program; Goodwill Industries; Health & Human Services; Lincoln Indian Center; Job Corps; Lincoln Action Program; NAF Multi-cultural Human Development Corporation; Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired; Nebraska Workforce Development; One Stop Employment Solutions; Operation ABLE; Southeast Community College; Unemployment Insurance; and Vocational Rehabilitation.
Primary funding is provided by the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
