August 2006

Sgt. Don Young requested and received $5K from the FOP and an additional $5K from the drug fund to purchase joint weight room fitness equipment. The equipment has been ordered and is presently arriving. LPD also pitched in money. Within the next month or two, you will see the weight room updated and transformed into one of the best weight rooms in Lancaster County. Sgt. Young has a lot of time and effort in this project. A sincere thank-you to Sgt. Young and the FOP Union.

Deputy Nick Heitman was the coordinator for the Special Olympics Torch Run. Great job Nick.

Deputy Mike Scofield conducted an informal employee survey regarding fitness. Walking, running, weightlifting, bike riding and golf were the top categories mentioned. The remaining categories each had a handful of votes or less.

With that in mind, we discussed an employee participated fun bike ride in the future. Not mandatory of course, basically any employee and family members that wished to ride meet at a certain place and time. Afterwards meet for lunch. More to come.

Captain Ben Houchin is working on a concept of a LSO FOP sponsored challenge course at Wagon Train Lake in April 2007. Additional details will be forthcoming.

Sgt. Stebbing is obtaining outside agency policies regarding fitness programs and is a liason with Sue Eckley who is the County wide coordinator.

Many, many more ideas are in the mix and will be released as soon as we confer with Sheriff Wagner and Chief Jarrett.

Watch for more news.
