Chief Deputy William E. Jarrett
Lancaster County's Chief Deputy Sheriff William Jarrett
began his career in law enforcement on the Lincoln Police
Department in 1974 and graduated from the Lincoln Police training academy in that same
year. He left the Lincoln Police Department in 1977 to briefly pursue a career outside
law enforcement.
Returning to law enforcement as a member of the Sheriff's Office in 1979, Chief
Jarrett served in every
division in the Office before being promoted to the rank of sergeant in August of 1991.
In November, 1991, Sheriff Tom Casady selected him as his Chief Deputy. He subsequently
served in that capacity under Casady's successor, Samuel VanPelt. For several months in
1994 Jarrett served as interim Sheriff until current Sheriff Terry Wagner took office.
Jarrett has served as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Wagner since that time.
Some of Chief Jarrett's areas of service include:
- Assistant Team Leader for Tactical Response Unit
- Field Training Officer for new recruits
- FBI trained Field Negotiator
- Past Treasurer of Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff's Association
- Past Vice President of Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff's Association
- Department Personnel and Training Officer
Over the years he has received dozens of commendations and awards, some of which include:
- 1984 Sertoma Club Officer of the Year
- 1991 Life Saving Award
- 1991 Footprinters Officer of the Year
- 1994 American Legion Officer of the Year
- 2000 Life Saving Award
Chief Jarrett is a 1971 graduate of Lincoln Pius X High School and maintains a close
relationship with the school from which three of his four children have graduated,
and which his youngest is still attending. Bill is a 1975 graduate of John F. Kennedy College
in Wahoo with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. Chief Jarrett and his wife Corinne were married in
1974 and have spent their entire married life in Lincoln. He and his wife own
their own business in Lincoln with Corinne overseeing the day-to-day operations.
Chief Deputy Jarrett is an active leader in the Lincoln community through his church and the
Sheriff's Office and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Police,
and an honorary member of the American Legion Club to mention a few.
