LIBA (retired)

1998 LIBA trading card

LIBA is a German Shepherd born in West Germany in 1991. He was imported from Germany in 1994 specifically for the Sheriff's Office after achieving the title of Schutzhund II. Once in the U.S., LIBA was trained in drug detection at Rudy Drexler's School for Dogs in Elkhart, Indiana. LIBA also acheived D.P.O. 1 through certification with the Nebraska State Patrol.

LIBA was assigned to Deputy Stewart Danburg since his importation. The two were on patrol as a team since 1994. In that time they made numerous arrests through drug searches and tracking criminals. LIBA retired in April of 2001 and lived with Deputy Danburg for several years until his death of natural causes in 2005.

Deputy Danburg has been with the Sheriff's Office since 1992 and is currently assigned as a deputy in the special services division.
