Haas (retired)
Haas is a German Shepherd born in Belgium in 1997. He was imported from Belgium in September of 2000 for the Sheriff's Office after achieving the title of Schutzhund III. Haas was renamed from Xavier since the T.O. Haas Tire Company was instrumental in financing his purchase and training. Haas was imported by Rudy Drexler's School for Dogs in Elkhart, Indiana, where he received training in drug detection. Haas's new handler, Deputy Brent Moore, also accompanied Haas during a three week orientation and training session at Drexler's.
On February 23, 2001, Deputy Moore and Haas graduated from the Nebraska State Patrol's seven week police service dog training course for new K9 teams. The pair certified in two phases of Polizeispuerhundprüfung (PSP), a German police service dog testing standard. These included PSP 1, patrol dog, and PSP 2, narcotic detection dog certification. Moore and Haas since that time successfully completed the state certification standards annually.
Deputy Moore started his law enforcment career as a Seward police officer in 1993. Moore began work as a Lancaster County deputy in 1998. In 2006, Moore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and works in the Administrative division. Sgt. Moore also now serves as the Office's K9 Unit Supervisor. Haas was retired from service and currently lives with Sgt. Moore and his family.
