Staff Training

The Juvenile Detention Center has one full-time training coordinator. The Juvenile Detention Center training program meets the National Juvenile Detention Association and the Nebraska Juvenile Standards requirements. New employees receive 120 hours of orientation training and 80 hours of in-service annually. The training program addresses an array of topics including agency purpose, philosophy, code of ethics, therapeutic aggression control techniques, behavior observation, recording and report writing, juvenile justice system, suicide prevention, first aid, CPR, pressure point control tactics, on the job training and much more.

The development of facility staff, student interns, and volunteers is an important responsibility of this administration. The Juvenile Detention Center places a high emphasis on training it's employees. We want new staff to be thoroughly oriented and trained to perform these duties. This approach, we believe, will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the operation and decrease the likelihood of problems and mistakes, reduce the chance of litigation against our facility for failing to adequately train new employees.
