G.P.S. is an acronym for Global Positioning System. Lancaster County Engineers Department uses G.P.S. as a surveying tool to retrieve locational information for particular points by positioning a receiver at a location and receiving timing information from various satellites. This information is mathematically adjusted so that a precise position for each "control" point can be determined. These points or "control" creates the framework to be used in map and spatial data base creation.
