Fatal Crash

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash occurring on Highway 77 just north of Princeton Road, at 1808 hours on 11/09/2007.

Preliminary investigation indicates a northbound 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 80 year-old Berl Damkroger of Lincoln, Nebraska, struck the rear of a northbound John Deere farm tractor towing other farm implements, being operated by 52 year-old Darrell Tesselle of rural Firth, Nebraska.

Berl Damkroger was transported to BryanLGH West by air ambulance and treated and released for his injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 79 year-old Viola Damkroger of Lincoln, Nebraska, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Darrell Tesselle was not injured in the crash.

Airbags deployed in the Grand Caravan. Preliminary investigation indicates that seat belts were in use. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected at this time.

The accident is being investigated by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. Rural medical personnel from Hickman, Hallam, and Cortland responded as well as Lincoln Fire and Rescue and the LifeNet helicopter. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
