1. Diesel Oxidation Catalyst
A diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) is a direct replacement for original equipment mufflers. This technology will be fitted to City of Lincoln maintenance vehicles and privately owned concrete mixer trucks. A DOC offers emission reductions of 25% to 50% for particulate matter, carbon monoxide, hydro-carbons, and carbon dioxide.
A DOC is shown being installed on a Ready Mixed Concrete truck.
2. Closed Crankcase Ventilation System
Closed Crankcase Ventilation System (CCVS) eliminates harmful and unwanted crankcase emissions and allows the crankcase to be closed without loss of power or decreased fuel economy. The CCVS also reduces emissions inside the vehicle and under the hood, and it reduces oil consumption. 105 Lincoln Public School busses will be fitted with this technology.
3. BNSF Switch Engine Hotstart Generator System
This technology will be utilized on 8 Burlington Northern Sante Fe switch engines. The Hotstart generator system maintains all engine fluid temperatures allowing the large locomotive diesel engine to be shut down when not in use. Currently, the diesel switch engines are running almost continuously. This technology greatly reduces harmful diesel emissions and fuel consumption as an added benefit.
