Firth, Nebraska USA
Historical Background

Firth, taking its name from Frank Firth, truly began when a post office named "Firth" was opened Dec. 6, 1872. As the town grew in population its prosperity grew as well. By 1881 Firth was know as one of the largest grain markets on their Railroad Line, the A & N Railroad. Firth also had a flour mill and a lumber yard which fell victims at fire and flooding but were always rebuilt. A bank was opened in 1891 but soon died during the depression. This has since been replaced by the Firth State Bank. The two-story brick school house, built in 1916 was consolidated with the surrounding communities to form the Norris school district. There are still two active churches today the Firth Reformed Church and the Firth Community Church (Presbyterian). Firth is known as a pleasant and quiet place to live today.
