Electrical Contractors

Step 1.Review the requirements

Contractors must have current registration and insurance on file to pull permits.

Contractors can complete their registration through Visual Vault prior to issuing permit.

All code requirements for electrical permits are available in Chapter 23.10 ELECTRICAL CODE

Step 2.Application Process

The process to apply for a permit takes about 10 minutes.

You will need to create an account at Citizen Access as a contractor.

Are you needing the legal address? Use the County Assessor's Site

Is your project in a commercial building or shared property space? Use the GIS Map.

Applicants can apply in person at the City Building or online. 

Paper applications can be mailed in with a check to:

Step 3.Make your payment

You can pay online through Citizen Access

You’re able to use a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover. 

All permits will have a minimum $35 fee. Additional fees may apply. 

Step 4.Schedule an inspection

Once the permit has been issued it needs to be inspected. A rough in inspection is called for when there is wiring/conduit that is done that will be concealed by building finish. A final inspection is called for when all the electrical work has been done, a service inspection is requested when the service installation is complete.

Please have your permit number, date for inspection, and access instructions if necessary. 

Non-compliance with the codes may result in a reinspection fee.
