Application Instructions 

The City of Lincoln and Lancaster County accepts applications for posted vacancies 24 hours/day online. A separate application and job specific supplemental questionnaire are required for each position for which you are applying. The City of Lincoln and Lancaster County are equal opportunity employers.  Applicants with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Where to Find Position Applications

Applications and supplemental questionnaires can be accessed by clicking on Job Vacancies. For internal jobs (positions available only to current City of Lincoln and Lancaster County classified employees) click on Promotional Opportunities. For seasonal jobs click on Seasonal Opportunities. By clicking on the position title, you may view the posted job description, and if you’re interested, click the green APPLY button in the top righthand corner of the job posting.

Applicants without computer access may come to the Human Resources Department at 575 South 10th Street, Ste. 4401. Office hours: M- F; 8:00am - 4:00pm. Computers and staff assistance are available.

NOTE: City/County jobs are updated every Saturday morning at 12:00 am. All electronic submissions need to be received by 11:59pm on the closing date of the posting.

Accessing our Applicant Tracking System to Apply

If this is the first time you are applying with the City of Lincoln or Lancaster County, you will need to create a NeoGov account and select a Username and Password. PLEASE NOTE: Your user account is unique to you and should not be shared with anyone else. Having multiple applications with multiple users may jeopardize your status in the recruitment process. It is recommended to use Microsoft Edge or Chrome as your browser.  The NeoGov software does not support Firefox. You will also need access to your personal email to set up your NeoGov account. When you click the green Apply button, select Create a new account and follow the instructions provided.

After your account has been established, you may parse (attach) your resume to automatically upload basic information such as name, address, professional experience and more. From here, you can review and edit the main application information including: Contact Information, Personal Information, Contact Preferences, Work Experience, Education, Additional Information (Certificates and Licenses), Skills, Languages, and other Supplemental Information, References, Attachments, and Agency Questions. This application will be saved and can be used to apply for more than one job opening. Each job opening you are applying to will have its own specific supplemental questions unique to that position and must be applied to individually.

It is important that your application and supplemental questions show all the relevant education and experience you possess.  Applications may be rejected if incomplete. We encourage you to attach a resume, but it will not be used in lieu of a completed application.

Checking your Application Status

Once you have completed and submitted your resume, your application and supplemental questions, you may log back into your NEOGOV user account to check the status of your application. If you have submitted your application correctly, your status should read "Application Received." (Note: If it does not, you may have filled out an application, but you did not submit it. Go to the position title you are interested in and "Apply" using your 'built' application.)

Online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information submitted.

NeoGov Support

If you are having problems with the NeoGov software (including issues with your NeoGov password) and need technical support please contact NEOGOV Customer Support Help Desk toll free (855) 524-5627 from 8:00am - 5:00pm Central Time, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Unfortunately, Human Resources does not have access to your username and password and cannot assist in resetting these.

After you Apply

The City of Lincoln / Lancaster County Human Resources Department does not conduct personal interviews for position vacancies. All applications are evaluated according to individual skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to the requirements of the position(s).

The Talent Acquisition division screens applications and supplemental questionnaires for each position after the closing date. They review applications and supplemental questionnaires to make sure each applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the job and weighs the responses on the supplemental questionnaire. Applicants with the highest scores become the top candidates. The top candidates who are referred to the hiring department to be contacted for the next steps in the selection process, which may be a phone screen or an in-person interview. The remaining applicants will receive an e-mail notifying them that they have not been referred.

The application process takes 1 to 2 weeks from the time the posting closes to the time when the hiring department receives the names of eligible candidates to contact for interviews.

Job Posting Email Updates 

Job Posting Email Updates is one of many services the City of Lincoln and Lancaster County offers. These updates allow you to be notified via email when jobs you are interested in are posted to our Job Opportunities page.

To sign up for Job Posting Email Updates, visit the Career Center and click on Email Subscription at the bottom of the page under the Career Links section.  Once the Job Opportunities page opens showing the Job Category options, you can place a check in the box next to each job category for which you would like to receive email notifications, click the 'Subscribe' button, fill out the information, and then click the 'Submit' button.

For the next 12 months after you submit this form, you will receive an email notification each time a position opens with City of Lincoln/Lancaster County whose category matches one of the categories you've chosen.
