Water Disconnection Policy
Water and Wastewater bills that are past due by 120 days or more are subject to disconnect.
Prevent Past-Due Accounts from Having Service Terminated
If your service is subject to disconnect, you may prevent service from being terminated by arranging a payment plan. Please call the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Water Billing Collection and Past Due division at 402-441-7533 to arrange a payment plan.
You have the right, prior to the service termination date, to request a discussion regarding any dispute over the proposed termination of water service. Service will not be terminated pending the conclusion of the discussion. To arrange a discussion, please call 402-441-7533.
Termination of service may be postponed for a period of not more than 30 days, upon presentation of a duly licensed physician's certificate certifying that a member of this household has an existing illness or disability which would cause such member to suffer an immediate and serious health hazard by termination of water service. (Lincoln Municipal Code 17.22.100)
Public Assistance recipients may qualify for assistance in payments of water bills. Please contact your caseworker.
Restore Water and Wastewater Service
If water service is terminated, a $25 turn-off fee and a $25 turn-on fee will be charged to the account. The entire water and wastewater amount is due, plus the $50 turn-on/turn-off fees, before water service will be restored.
Payment must be received in the Lincoln Water System Business Office before 3 p.m. on the day service is restored. If the payment is received after 3 p.m., service will be restored the next business day.
If you chose to pay online, please call the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Water Billing Collection and Past Due division at 402-441-7533 prior to 3 p.m. to arrange for your water service to be turned back on.
An adult over the age of 18-years-old must be present when water service is restored. Failure to be present at the scheduled time will result in an additional $25 trip charge.
Please call 402-441-7533, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for assistance.
