Overview

Lincoln Parks and Recreation has been providing adaptive recreation opportunities for 50 years and counting. We are committed to providing fun, structured, social opportunities for growth and building friendships for individuals with special needs.

Special Olympics

Lincoln Parks & Recreation sponsors the Lincoln Shooting Stars team with competition in a variety of seasonal sports. Our team is open to athletes from ages 8 on up, with a Young Athletes Program available to younger athletes of all abilities.

Adult Day Structure Programs

Our Day Structure program is held in a supportive, caring environment, with trained and experienced staff, volunteers, and community specialists who lead activities and special programs. Participants are encouraged to set personal goals and engage in a broad spectrum of activities.

Our program offerings include: Exercise & Physical Activities, Arts & Crafts, Gardening, Theatre/Drama, Nutrition & Cooking, Leisure Education, Life Skills, Special Events/Holiday Parties, Community Outings, and much, much more!

Adaptive Recreation Clubs 


Lincoln Parks & Recreation Adaptive Recreation Clubs are offered to individuals with disabilities. Clubs provide a safe supervised setting for social interaction with friends, and offer a variety of age-appropriate activities.

Hi-Time Club

Join in the fun and games at Hi -Time Club. Enjoy spending time with peers during activities, talent shows, guided painting, local high school sporting events, dances, and karaoke. 

Ages: Young Adults
Location: Auld Pavilion, 1650 Memorial Drive in Antelope Park, or community venues
Day: Mondays
Time: 6:30-8 PM

Social Club / Friendship Club

Socialize with friends and engaging, caring staff! Activities include dances, movies, crafts, local sporting events, bingo, costume parties, and so much more.  

Ages: 21+
Location: Auld Pavilion, 1650 Memorial Drive, or other community venues
Day: Wednesdays
Time: 6:30-8 PM 

Respite and Recreation Programs

Respite & Recreation

An adaptive program held on Wednesday afternoons at Easterday Recreation Center giving individuals the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational activities while providing respite time for families. Participants will engage in a variety of social and recreational activities including exercise, games, arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, and outings. Respite and Recreation is designed for individuals ages 21+ who are not currently receiving day services. Pre-registration is required.

Adaptive Recreation Co-ed Bowling League

Teams bowl each week following regulation league rules and handicaps. Trophies are awarded at the end of every season. Pre-registration required. Call Easterday at (402) 441-7901 for more information or to register.

Fee: $10 per session + $11 per week
Day: Saturdays
Time:  1:00-4:00 PM

Special Olympics Young Athletes

This free sports program is for children age 2 to 7, with or without intellectual disabilities. It introduces basic skills like running, kicking, and throwing, and provides families an opportunity to learn, play, exercise, and socialize. It offers a flexible environment, adapting the curriculum to suit athletes and incorporating desired social activities. The program is sponsored by Special Olympics Nebraska and the Lincoln Shooting Stars team of Lincoln Parks and Recreation.

Lincoln Parks and Recreation Cheer Team

Participants age 8 and older will join in cheerleading, dancing and socializing during the Lincoln Shooting Stars basketball season. Team members will contribute to a shirt design, decorate personalized megaphones, and learn cheers and a dance. This initiative is designed to build camaraderie and vibrant team spirit while supporting the Lincoln Shooting Stars basketball teams. The $25 pre-registration fee is required upon joining the cheer team. The fee includes a megaphone and a t-shirt.

Art for all Abilities

Art Class: Holiday Ceramics

Fee: $26.75 for 3 weeks - Includes the cost of project supplies.
