Woods Park Community Meetings

The Friends of Woods Tennis (FOWT) is a nonprofit corporation that operates the indoor and outdoor tennis facilities at Woods Park. FOWT has requested an amendment to the Woods Park Master Plan to allow for an expansion of these tennis facilities. Additional information about this proposal and the Woods Park Master Plan can be found on the Woods Park Proposed Master Plan webpage.

A series of three community meetings will be held in the lower level of Woods Park Place, 3131 O St, to receive public comment about the proposal. These meetings will be held on:

  • Saturday, March 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Monday, March 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

These will be open public meetings. Facilitators Carl Eskridge and Casey Karges from the Mediation Center will facilitate the meetings.

The framework for each meeting will be:

  • Welcome and Facilitator/City Staff Introductions (5 minutes)
  • History of Woods Park Master Plans and Friends of Woods Tennis Proposed Expansion Plan (Parks and Recreation Department Staff) (20 minutes)
  • Public Presentations (90 minutes)
  • Wrap Up & Next Steps (5 minutes)

To afford others the opportunity to testify, each public presenter will be asked to speak at only one community meeting. If time allows, repeat presenters will be called for additional testimony.

If time is full at the meeting you attend to present, written testimony can be submitted by regular mail (Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department, 3131 O Street, Suite 300, Lincoln, NE 68510) or email (parks@lincoln.ne.gov; please include the phrase “Woods Park Testimony” in the subject line).

When you arrive:

  • Please sign in on the sheet at the front desk/s.
  • All of those who wish to present will need to sign in with their names /addresses/ contact information and whether presenting in favor of the tennis expansion (“proponents”), in opposition to the tennis expansion (“opponents”), or in a neutral capacity.
  • Presenters will be allowed to sign in for themselves only.

For presenters:

  • The facilitators will call presenters in the order they signed in and rotate—first a proponent will be called, then an opponent, then a neutral presenter.  The cycle will then continue through the designated end time.
  • Those presenting will be given three minutes. A notice of one minute remaining will be shared to help keep each presentation on time. This three-minute time limit will be honored to assure the Parks and Recreation Department team can hear from as many people as possible during each meeting. Although these meetings are focused on accepting public testimony, please note that Lincoln Parks and Recreation staff will be documenting questions raised.
  • Please note that a microphone will be available for presenters.
  • Those presenting are welcome to share a written/expanded outline of their testimony with Parks and Recreation Department staff either at the meeting or after the meeting by regular mail (Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department, 3131 O Street, Suite 300, Lincoln, NE 68510) or email (parks@lincoln.ne.gov; please include the phrase “Woods Park Testimony” in the subject line).

Thank you for your willingness to share your opinions on the proposed plan to expand tennis facilities in Woods Park.
