Lincoln became a Silver level Bicycle Friendly Community in 2019, a designation that was renewed in 2023 and remains in place for four years. Since then, our bicycle friendly businesses have grown from one to eleven, our bicycle network has expanded with new protected facilities, and we are striving to implement proven safety measures to reduce injuries and fatalities with the launch of Safe Streets Lincoln. With all these action items, we are working towards moving up to a Platinum level Bicycle Friendly Community during our next renewal period. The current scorecard for Lincoln's Silver Designation can be found here.
The League of American Bicyclists has been operating the Bicycle Friendly Business program since 2008 and as of May 2023 Lincoln has 11 bicycle friendly businesses spanning from Bronze to Platinum. Deserving businesses are recognized at the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels and all applicants receive valuable feedback and assistance in becoming more welcoming to bicycling. There are typically three submission deadlines for the program each year and existing businesses renew every four years.
