Portion of S. 84th St. to Close for Railroad Crossing Improvements

Published on December 09, 2020

Beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, December 11, South 84th Street between Amber Hill and Yankee Hill roads will be closed for railroad crossing safety improvements. The recommended detours are Nebraska Highway 2 and Yankee Hill Road. This work is scheduled to be completed by 5 p.m. Monday, December 14.

Digital signs will alert traffic to upcoming work and closures. No through traffic will be allowed during this work. Travelers are encouraged to use the detours or seek an alternate route and exercise caution around the work zone.

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) will install new signals, gates and lights at this railroad crossing. OPPD will also widen the street crossing to match the City’s new paving modification that will be completed in spring 2021.

OPPD, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU), and the Railroad Transportation Safety District (RTSD) are coordinating this work to improve the safety, reliability and longevity of this crossing. LTU appreciates the public’s patience during this work. OPPD project dates are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
