COVID-19 Risk Dial Remains in Mid-Yellow

DHM extended through April 23

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) today announced that the COVID-19 Risk Dial will remain in mid-yellow for an eighth consecutive week as key indicators continue to remain steady. The yellow position on the dial means that the risk of the virus spreading in the community is moderate. On the color-coded dial, red represents the highest risk of COVID-19 spread, and green represents the lowest risk. The dial is updated every Tuesday.

The position of the Risk Dial is based on multiple local indicators and information from the previous three weeks:

  • The number of new weekly cases increased 11 percent in two weeks from 324 the week ending March 20 to 360 the week ending April 3. It is the highest number of weekly cases since the week ending February 6.
  • The local positivity rate increased from 4.1 percent the week ending March 27 to 4.9 percent the week ending April 3.
  • The number of  COVID-9 patients hospitalized locally has increased, especially among Lancaster County residents. An average of 14 local residents were hospitalized the end of March, but the number has increased in April. The 24 local patients reported Monday was the highest since March 6, when 26 local residents were hospitalized. Today, 22 of the 27 patients hospitalized are from Lancaster County.

Monday, four more local cases of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 also known as the U.K. variant were reported.  The number of local cases of COVID-19 variants is now up to seven – six cases of the UK variant and one case of B.1.429 known as the California variant.

Because of concern over the variants and the increasing number of new cases and hospitalizations, the current Directed Health Measure has been extended through April 23, when the majority of those age 65 and up will be fully vaccinated.
