The Parks and Recreation Department invites middle school students to free science-based activity sessions in July. The “Build Your EcosySTEM” sessions are from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on July 14, 21, and 28 at the Irving Recreation Center, 1900 Van Dorn St. Pre-registration by Wednesday, July 14 is required.

The sessions will focus on hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects supervised by construction industry professionals. Each night will feature three sessions that focus on a different STEM-based construction industry. The activities include exploring construction, building bridges, electronic systems, and learning about construction careers.

Parents may register by emailing BuildYourEcosySTEM@abcnebraska.org or calling 402-477-4451. Classes include a t-shirt and dinner at 5:30. Students may attend one or all three sessions.

The program is coordinated by Lincoln Parks and Recreation, American Builders and Contractors of Nebraska, Lincoln STEM Ecosystem, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Durham School.
