Bed Bug Infestation Workshop

If you are a landlord, or the manager of a property, a hotel, a furniture rental business, or a thrift store, and have not experienced bed bugs, you are fortunate - it is likely only a matter of time before you will have an infestation. This workshop will help you understand the most effective treatments and management steps to prevent and reduce the severity of a bed bug infestation.

This Bed Bug Infestation Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, 3140 'N' Street, lower level Training Center. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is encouraged and is only $10 per person by April 13. Those who have not pre-registered will be allowed to attend only if seating is available and will pay $15 at the door.

Topics will include: bed bug identification, biology and behavior; common hiding places; treatment options; and property owner and tenant responsibilities. "Spot," Lincoln's first bed bug sniffing dog, will provide a live demonstration of bed bug identification. Presenters will include Barb Ogg, PhD, UNL Cooperative Extension in Lancaster County, and Health Department staff.

Bed bug infestations have made a world-wide resurgence and Lincoln is experiencing problems much like other cities. The most common and problematic cases are in apartment houses with multiple unit dwellings where bed bugs travel easily between units. Used furniture has also been a common source for bed bug infestations.
