Pine Lake from 61st to Highway 2 Widening and Safety Improvement Project

The City of Lincoln began the Pine Lake Road widening and safety improvement project in March 2018. This project is necessary to increase the capacity of this roadway as a part of the increasing development in southeast Lincoln.

Project Highlights

Pine Lake Road is being widened to four lanes from S 61st Street to Highway 2

The curve and slope of the hill between S 75th Street and Highway 2 will be reduced to improve sight distance

The S 70th Street and Pine Lake Road intersection will be reconstructed with a roundabout

The railroad crossing east of Pine Lake Park will be rebuilt with crossing gates installed

The Beal Slough culvert will be upgraded and will include a trail undercrossing for a future pedestrian trail

A new culvert will be constructed under Blanchard Boulevard and will include a trail undercrossing

The intersection of Blanchard Boulevard and Pine Lake Road will be reconstructed with a roundabout

Additional culverts beneath S 70th Street and beneath Pine Lake Road will be reconstructed to increase capacity

Sidewalks will be built along the roadway and street lighting will be upgraded

Estimated Schedule

The City of Lincoln began construction March 5, 2018. Construction of Pine Lake Road is a two year project with final completion scheduled for the fall of 2019.

Current Activities (as of October 1, 2019)

  • The sections of Pine Lake from 61st to 66th and 70th to Highway 2 will remain closed until project completion in the fall of 2019. Access to homes and businesses along Pine Lake between 66th and 70th remains available from 70th Street.
  • Mainline paving between 61st and the railroad crossing to the east will begin.
  • Roundabout construction at Blanchard Boulevard and Pine Lake will begin.
  • Mainline paving between 70th and Highway 2 has been completed. Final grading and sidewalk installation will follow.
  • Grading for roadway widening is mostly complete.
  • Additional lighting to improve safety will be installed.
  • Work on new sanitary lines and manholes between 70th and Highway 2 are mostly complete.
  • Construction of the new Blanchard Box Culvert has been completed.
  • Construction of the West Pine Lake Box Culvert has been completed.
  • Work on new water lines between 70th and Highway 2 are completed.

Access During Construction

Work will be performed under a series of total road closures. Local access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
