Lincoln Mayor Don Wesely and other city officials today kicked off the beginning of StarTran’s new route #18, the 48th Street Shuttle. Rides on the new route, which replaces the Midtown Route, will be free from today through October 24.
The 48th Street Shuttle runs from the area of 27th and Superior and Cornhusker Highway on the north to 70th and Pioneers on the south. The majority of the route runs along 48th Street. The new route serves Gateway Mall, other shopping centers, medical offices, businesses and school activity areas. It also provides 11 transfer opportunities without the need for a downtown transfer.
"StarTran’s slogan is ‘we’re on your way,’ and this new route will provide transportation to and from some of the busiest spots in our city," said Mayor Wesely. "StarTran provides excellent community service, and I congratulate our bus system for its ongoing efforts to make improvements."
"This north-south shuttle service includes many of the same features which have resulted in the success of our other north-south route, the 27th Street Shuttle," said Larry Worth, Transit Manager for StarTran. "We look forward to comparable success with this new route."
