Nebraska Task Force 1, the Urban Search and Rescue team based at Lincoln Fire and Rescue, will conduct a Mobilization Exercise Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1 near Salina, Kansas.
The exercise is designed to prepare the team to respond to large-scale manmade or natural disasters. Team members will participate in a simulated disaster scenario to practice building and shoring techniques and demonstrate the management, communication and logistical skills needed to operate during a disaster.
About 120 task force members will participate in the two-day event. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires a full-scale mobilization exercise each year. The exercise does not require City funds — all costs associated with the exercise are funded by FEMA.
This exercise will be taking place at the Crisis City Disaster Training site just outside of Salina. Team members will assemble at 5:30 a.m., and the exercise will be under way from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
