The City Public Works and Utilities Department will celebrate Public Works Week with "Crew at the Zoo" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 through 10 at the entrance to the Lincoln Children's Zoo. The free week-long event will feature some of the department's big equipment, displays, fun activities, interesting information and handouts. Those attending also will receive a coupon for $1 off Zoo admission or a train ride.
"Crew at the Zoo is a fun and exciting way for families to learn more about Public Works and Utilities and the services we provide to the community day in and day out," said Director Greg MacLean. "Public Works and Utilities is the largest department in City government and has the most direct effect on people's lives. From 'first brush to last flush and everything in between,' every man woman and child in Lincoln depends on Public Works. Whenever you take a drink of Nebraska's best tasting water, recycle newspapers, walk on a sidewalk, drive across town, ride a StarTran bus, flush your toilet or wonder how our City grows, remember it's Public Works who makes sure everything works... safely and every time."
Each day of the week has a theme:
