Public Meeting Set for North 14th Street Project

The public is invited to an open house to learn about construction plans for the North 14th Street project from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 10 at the Belmont Recreation Center, 1234 Judson St. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The project will widen 14th Street to four lanes from Superior to Interstate 80 and will include the construction of a multi-lane roundabout at 14th and Superior streets. Pedestrian tunnels will be constructed on the west and south sides of the intersection to accommodate the trail crossings that will exist in the area after the completion of the project. The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) also is building a bridge over Interstate 80 on N. 14th Street.

Street construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 11 and road closures on 14th Street will be necessary throughout the duration of the project. Detours will be posted. Superior Street will remain open to traffic during construction, with some lane closures.

An additional public information session will be scheduled prior to actual construction of the roundabout in order to provide more detail on the construction schedule, to answer questions and to provide information on driving the roundabout.

The I-80 bridge is scheduled to open in August 2012, and the roundabout is scheduled to open in November 2012. The entire project is expected to be completed in May 2013.

At the October 11 open house, representatives from the City of Lincoln, project consultants, contractors and NDOR will be available to discuss the construction phasing and answer questions.

Individuals who have questions prior to the meeting or are unable to attend should contact Devin Biesecker, City of Lincoln, at 402-937-5515, or Jon Olsen, Olsson Associates, at 402-458-5614. More information is available at (keyword projects) and on the project website at
