April is a busy month for StarTran, starting with Nebraska Transit Week April 6 through 10. StarTran will feature special promotions each day of the week:
StarTran will provide Big Red Express shuttle service for the Nebraska football spring football game, April 11, in addition to regular route service. Buses will leave from SouthPointe Pavilions, 27th and Pine Lake (south side of mall), and North Star High School, 5801 N. 33rd St.
Big Red Express service begins two hours before kick-off, and the last buses leave the lots about 45 minutes before kickoff. The drop-off and pick-up location at the stadium is on "R" Street between 12th and 14th streets. Buses return to the lots immediately after the game. Cost is $5 each way or $10 round-trip, and passengers need exact change. For more information on the Big Red Express and regular service, visit startran.lincoln.ne.gov or call 402-476-1234.
The public can help "Stuff the Bus" on April 11 and 12 by donating new items needed by the residents at Friendship Home, a 24-hour emergency shelter for those experiencing domestic violence. StarTran buses and Friendship Home volunteers will be stationed at these locations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day:
Items needed include toilet paper, paper towels, twin-sized sheets, pillows, bath towels, personal care items, kitchenware, laundry and cleaning supplies and small appliances. Cash donations are accepted. Digity Radio's Lincoln stations - KFRX (106.3 FM), The Eagle-KTGL (92.9 FM), The Blaze-KIBZ (104.1 FM), ESPN-KLMS (1480 AM), KFOR (1240 AM) and KZKX (96.9 FM) - will do live broadcasts from the event.
