Construction is expected to begin Monday, May 2 on the next phase of the "P" Street streetscape improvement project from Centennial Mall to mid-block between 17th and 18th streets. The work will require some lane closures and pedestrian detours. At least one point of access to all businesses and residence will be maintained.
The streetscape project involves reconstructing sidewalks and parking areas along the north side of "P" Street, as well as installing new landscaping and trees throughout the project area. Pedestrian seating will also be installed in some areas. Other improvements include erosion control features, traffic signal changes, lighting and on-street bicycle parking. Some of this work will also take place on the south side of "P" Street from 16th to 17th streets. The concrete and paving work is expected to be completed in August, weather permitting. Landscaping and lighting installation will continue through the fall.
