Selected trees along the drainage channel in Irvingdale Park will be removed on Monday, February 19 to prepare for stormwater improvement work. The work will take place between South 17th and 20th streets.
The project to begin this summer includes stabilizing the stream channel to minimize flood damage and erosion, replacing the bridge that crosses the channel to Irvingdale Pool and installing new landscaping. The work is scheduled to be completed in spring 2019.
Only those trees located within the construction area will be removed. The work is being done now to comply with the April 1 Federal Migratory Bird Act deadline.
The project is a joint effort between the City's Parks and Recreation Department and Public Works and Utilities and the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District. Stormwater Improvement Bonds approved by voters in 2016 will fund the City's portion of the channel improvements.
