'Click it or Ticket' & 'School's Out' Enforcement Projects

The Traffic Enforcement Unit will be joining in a nationwide “Click it or Ticket” traffic enforcement campaign beginning Monday, May 19th which will run in conjunction with Lincoln Police Department’s, “School’s Out” traffic enforcement project.

This combined enforcement effort will begin Monday, May 19th and run through Sunday, June 1st, 2008. The traffic enforcement project, funded by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, allows us to conduct selective enforcement in specific areas throughout the city as well as in school zones. Drivers are cautioned to be aware of the “25 MPH” flashing yellow lights of school zones and obey speed limits around schools.

One in every 23 licensed drivers in Nebraska will be involved in a motor vehicle collision each year. Last year, there were 8,522 accidents in Lincoln which resulted in 2,570 people injured. The use of safety belts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent. Currently, we have a 75.5% use rate in Lancaster County.
