Lincoln Police Department Addresses Funeral Concerns
Concerns have been expressed surrounding the Lincoln Police Department's involvement in the upcoming memorial services for Sergeant Patrick D. Hamburger. Sergeant Hamburger was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard's Company B, 2nd Battalion 135th General Support Aviation, based in Grand Island. He was killed on August 6, 2011, in a Chinook helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Specific details for services are not finalized; however, the police department has been coordinating with funeral directors and military personnel. Due to the expected size and scope of the memorial, the Lincoln Police Department will be providing traffic escorts to promote safe passage for family, friends and others attending the arrival, the services and the interment. Officers will be controlling traffic at major intersections to facilitate a continuous escort without interruption. This participation is in accordance with department guidelines and city ordinance. Any concerns regarding permits and costs are unwarranted. The traffic assistance will be handled by on-duty police officers.
High attendance is anticipated which may cause traffic delays and interruptions. Please be patient as supporters honor the deceased.
