49th and Rentworth Area Storm Drain Improvements
Updated November 3, 2014
This project includes the installation of additional storm sewer pipe and inlets. These additions will improve drainage by allowing more water to be removed from the street. As a result, storm water will get to the storm sewer more quickly, reducing ponding and street flooding.
The installation of the new storm drainage system encompasses the area from the west side of 48th Street to the east side of 50th Street along Rentworth Drive, and directly north of Rentworth Drive between 49th Street and 50th Street between existing businesses. The storm drainage work will involve removal and replacement of street paving, curb and gutter, sidewalks and driveways. This work will also include construction of new storm drainage curb inlets and manholes.
Construction of this project began in October 2014. It is expected the storm drainage system work in the area will take approximately 60 days to complete. Rentworth Drive between 49th and 50th Streets will close the week of November 3, 2014 and remain closed for approximately two weeks. Access to each business driveway will be maintained at all times, or an alternate route will be discussed with each business. No parking signs shall be placed on 50th Street to assist delivery truck drivers with access to Rentworth Drive.
There will be some inconvenience to businesses while Rentworth Drive is closed, but 49th and 50th Streets shall remain open at all times during this work. Again, access to businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of construction, but may be limited periodically.
This project is funded through the 2012 Storm Bond. The contract for this work has been awarded to K2 Construction of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Public Works and Utilities Department will administer this contract, and Alfred Benesch and Company will provide construction management and inspection of the project.
