The Testing Process

Step 1.Complete the Registration Application prior to applying for the required examination.

JOURNEYMAN QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Applicants shall have at least four (4) years of practical experience as a registered Sprinkler System, Gas Extinguishing System, or Wet/Dry Chemical System Apprentice, in the design, layout, construction and/or installation, of the respective fire suppression system type.
  • Applicants, while regularly employed by a person, firm or corporation regularly engaged in the installation of sprinkler systems, gas extinguishing systems, or wet/dry chemical systems, shall receive one (1) year practical experience credit for each year of full-time employment.  The practical experience credited for part-time employment shall be determined by the fire code official.
  • Applicants, graduating from a four (4) year engineering course from an accredited college or university will receive two (2) years of practical experience credit required above.
  • Applicants, who have completed a course of study approved by the fire code official, in the design, layout construction and/or installation of sprinkler systems, gas extinguishing systems, or wet/dry chemical systems will receive one (1) year of practical experience credit required above.
  • A professional mechanical engineer registered in the State of Nebraska, will receive three (3) years of practical experience credit required above.
  • Sprinkler system, gas extinguishing system, or wet/dry chemical system education and training received from military service, extension courses, adult education classes, etc..., may account for practical experience credit at the discretion of the fire code official.

TRANSFER

An applicant holding a valid Sprinkler System, Gas Extinguishing System, or Wet/Dry Chemical System journeyman’s license, received by another state or municipal governmental agency, shall be entitled to take the respective fire suppression system type journeyman’s examination, established by the City of Lincoln, without submitting any additional qualifications.


CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Applicants shall be registered through the Department of Building and Safety as a licensed Sprinkler System, Gas Extinguishing System, or Wet/Dry Chemical System Journeyman for at least one (1) year; OR shall be a mechanical engineer graduate from an accredited college or university; AND
  2. Applicants shall have at least two (2) years of practical experience in the supervising, design, layout, construction, and installation of sprinkler systems, gas extinguishing systems, or wet/dry chemical systems; OR shall be a registered professional mechanical engineer in the State of Nebraska; OR shall obtain a (NICET) National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies Level 3 or 4.

TRANSFER

An applicant holding a valid Sprinkler System, Gas Extinguishing System, or Wet/Dry Chemical System Contractor’s license, received by another state or municipal governmental agency, shall be entitled to take the respective fire suppression system contractor examination, established by the City of Lincoln, without submitting any additional qualifications.

ASC2 - Sprinkler Commercial On-Site Competent Person

PEG2 - Pre-Engineered Gas Clean Agent On-Site

KHFE2 - Kitchen Hood & Fire Extinguisher (combined exam)

Everyone must register on the CSA exam site with the legal name that appears on their driver’s license. There will be a delay in receiving your test results and you will be required to provide a copy of your State-Issued ID before receiving your results.

Step 4.Uploading Test Results

You will upload your test results as part of your New Bureau of Fire Prevention Registration Application. Please go to the Registration Process tab on this page to learn more.
