In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Exam Board is committed to providing testing accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure they have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from testing programs. The Exam Board will provide reasonable accommodations based on an individual’s documented disability unless doing so would result in an undue burden or fundamentally alter the nature of the testing program.
An individual is eligible for testing accommodations if they have a documented disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities (e.g., walking, seeing, hearing, learning, etc.).
Individuals must meet all other prerequisites for the test or program, aside from the disability.
Individuals seeking testing accommodations should submit an application to take a scheduled examination and filing fee, along with a written request for accommodations to the Chief Inspector not less than forty-five (45) days prior to the test date.
The accommodation request must include:
- The nature of the disability.
- The specific accommodation(s) being requested.
- Supporting documentation from a qualified healthcare provider or specialist outlining the need for the accommodation(s).
Requests may be submitted via [email, online form, in-person, etc.], and should include the applicant's name, contact information, and the test or assessment for which accommodations are being requested. The Department can request the applicant use the Examination Accommodation Request Form but cannot limit the request to only those made using the Form.
The Chief Inspector is under no obligation to review a request for an accommodation if filed less than forty-five (45) days prior to the next examination date.
Documentation must be current (usually within the past 2 years) and include a clear description of the individual’s disability and its impact on the test-taking process.
Documentation should specify the recommended accommodation(s) based on the disability.
Documentation should reflect that the requested accommodation is reasonable and necessary for the individual to participate fully in the examination.
The Chief Inspector will review the accommodation request and supporting documentation to determine the appropriate accommodations.
If additional information or clarification is needed, the individual will be contacted promptly.
Within 20 days of receiving the request and documentation, and at least 20 days prior to the exam date, the individual will be notified of the decision regarding the accommodations.
If accommodations are approved, a written notice detailing the accommodations will be provided to the individual and the relevant testing entity.
If accommodations are approved, the applicant must comply with all rules, regulations, deadlines, and exam procedures not affected or modified by the approved accommodations.
If accommodations are denied, the individual will receive a written explanation of the denial and an opportunity to appeal.
