Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to approximately 1.5 miles of 27th Street from Nebraska Parkway to South Street. These improvements include concrete repair or replacement, joint and crack sealing, mill and overlay, curb and median repair or replacement, public utility adjustments, pavement markings and inlet top replacements. Additional work with other funding sources includes signal replacements at Woods Boulevard, Sheridan Boulevard, and Van Dorn Street; pedestrian crossing with rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) at Stockwell Street/O’Reilly Drive; upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements; and water main repairs and lead service line replacements.
No property or right-of-way acquisitions are anticipated for this project. All work would occur in the existing right-of-way and there are no anticipated impacts to recreation resources such as the Country Club of Lincoln or any historic properties. As part of construction, there may be a need for temporary access to properties for surveying, access to utilities, and equipment access. Any access that is needed will be communicated ahead of time to the property owner and/or resident.
This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Street construction is expected to take place in 2026. Signal replacements will be completed in summer of 2027.
Improvements would be completed under temporary street closures. Closures would be phased to reduce access impacts for homes and businesses. Access may be limited at times during construction. The contractor will contact residents that may have access impacts prior to the start of construction.
