Lincoln on the Move invested in improvements to approximately 1.5 miles of Leighton Avenue from 48th to 70th streets. These improvements included concrete pavement repair, removal and replacement of asphalt paving, concrete base repairs and inlet top replacements.
Additional work with other funding sources included the installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) and upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
This project was programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project was funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Construction took place in 2024.
