The 98th Street Water Transmission Main Project includes the design and construction of a new, large diameter water transmission main that will complete the connection from the Northeast Pump Station located at 98th Street and Alvo Road to the Vine Street Reservoir. The Vine Street Reservoir is currently served by a single transmission main from the Northeast Pump Station. The additional transmission main will serve as a link between the City’s current water source and its future second source of supply and will provide for growth, redundancy, and flexibility in the City’s water distribution and supply system.
The transmission main will be a single pipe, between 54- 60 inches in diameter. The pipe will be located within permanent easements on private property. Temporary easements will be acquired as necessary to allow for the construction of the transmission main. The pipe will be installed under the streets and roads by tunneling construction methods.
Funding
The project is being funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Schedule
Construction is expected to take place in 2025 and 2026. Landowners will be notified well in advance of the start of construction that impacts their property.
The project is being divided into two construction packages where construction activities will occur concurrently along 98th Street to minimize construction impacts to residents and reduce the construction timeline.
Access During Construction
Traffic impacts along Holdrege Street between 88th Street and 98th Street are anticipated during construction. One lane closures and temporary full closures may occur through the project. Residential and emergency street access will be maintained at all times.
A short-term sidewalk closure along Vine Street will be required during Vine Street Reservoir construction. Door hanger notices will be delivered to residents directly impacted when this occurs.
