Project Summary
This street improvement project will enhance pavement conditions and infrastructure along 56th Street from Spruce Street to Van Dorn Street in southeast Lincoln. The project includes a mill and overlay of the asphalt section from Pioneers Boulevard to Van Dorn Street, concrete panel repairs on portions of the street from Spruce Street to Pioneers Boulevard, and necessary street base repairs. The intersection at Van Dorn Street will be fully reconstructed.
Additional improvements will upgrade pedestrian ramps to meet federal and local ADA standards, replace substandard curb inlet tops, and repair damaged curb and gutter.
Purpose and Need
The purpose of this project is to preserve the transportation asset, improve the reliability of Lincoln’s transportation system, and ensure the mobility of the traveling public. The need for this project is based on the condition of the existing pavement.
Right of Way
Additional Right of Way and easements will not be needed to facilitate work on this project.
Funding
This project is federally funded.
Schedule
Construction is scheduled to take place in 2025.
Access During Construction
Construction will be phased for the duration of the project. Access to individual properties will be maintained. The traveling public is encouraged to find alternative routes and to use the WAZE app for assistance.
