Location
This project will improve approximately 1.85 miles of Cornhusker Highway from approximately 37th Street to just east of L55X (56th Street).
Purpose and Need
The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the service life of the transportation asset, improve the reliability of the transportation system, and perpetuate the mobility of the traveling public. The need for this project is to remove infrastructure that has exceeded its expected lifespan and bring the intersection control into conformance with current traffic signal practices and to meet current City of Lincoln guidelines and specifications. The City of Lincoln’s Asset Management Division has determined that the pavement distresses present on this section of Cornhusker Highway (US-6) are significant enough to warrant improvements.
Scope of Work
Work would consist of pavement repair, mill and overlay, public utility adjustments, inlet top, base and curb repairs/replacement. Sidewalks and pedestrian ramps would be reconstructed to meet federal and local standards. The project also includes replacement of the traffic signal at the Havelock Avenue/Superior Street intersection.
Funding Details
This project includes federal and local funds.
Schedule
Construction could begin as early as fall 2026 and be completed by fall 2027.
Access During Construction
This project would be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by appropriate traffic control devices and practices. Traffic detours would not be necessary to install the traffic signals.
Temporary sidewalk closures would be necessary during the construction of the proposed project. Sidewalk detours would be utilized on N. 40th Street, N. 44th Street, Colfax Avenue, Superior Street, Havelock Avenue, and US-6/Cornhusker Highway.
