Purpose and Need

The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the service life of the transportation asset, improve the reliability of the transportation system, and perpetuate the mobility of the traveling public. The need for this project is to remove infrastructure that has exceeded its expected lifespan and bring the intersection control into conformance with current traffic signal practices and to meet current City of Lincoln guidelines and specifications. The City of Lincoln’s Asset Management Division has determined that the pavement distresses present on this section of Cornhusker Highway (US-6) are significant enough to warrant improvements.
