Lincoln’s sidewalk program made great strides in 2025, repairing and improving sidewalks at a rate unmatched in recent years. Thanks to increased funding, the City accelerated its pace of work, driving an 85 percent increase in locations repaired and extending improvements across more neighborhoods.

In 2025, Lincoln repaired more than twice the sidewalk surface area compared to 2024.
From 2024 to 2025, Lincoln nearly doubled sidewalk location improvements and installed more than 2½ times more ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Eligible sidewalk improvements include mud jacking to level uneven slabs and full panel replacement for damaged sections. (More info below.)
Crews are replacing damaged sections across Lincoln, focusing on sites from the lengthy repair waiting list to improve walkability and access.
Our Sidewalk and StarTran teams are working together to repair sidewalks and install ramps near select bus stops, improving ADA access for riders.
By sawing/grinding uneven panels, crews reduce trip hazards, making neighborhood sidewalks safer for everyone.
Lincoln’s sidewalk reimbursement program empowers property owners to improve walkability in neighborhoods. When funds are available, residents can hire a contractor to repair qualifying sidewalk sections and receive reimbursement from the City.
In 2025, the City increased the reimbursement rate for full sidewalk panel replacement from $6 to $10 per square foot, helping better reflect current construction costs. Mud jacking remains reimbursable at up to $3 per square foot.
As of early August, the City has doubled partipication in the reimbursement program, processing more than 200 reimbursements.
The sidewalk program will continue to grow in 2026, with $3 million budgeted for next year’s improvements. Upcoming priorities include:
