Lincoln Water System is offering an opportunity to upgrade your lead or lead-contaminated galvanized service line. The cost of replacing a lead line will be fully paid for by the City. This initiative is part of our commitment to ensure the reliability and safety of the water for all Lincoln residents.
Old lead and lead-contaminated service lines can lead to water contamination. A new service line means cleaner water for you and your family.
Replacing galvanized service lines with copper is a significant improvement to a home’s plumbing system. Galvanized service lines corrode over time which can lead to leaks, rusty water, and restricted water flow to the home.
Your home’s new copper service line will be installed and comes with a two-year warranty. The cost of replacing a lead line will be paid for by the City. By participating in Lead Safe Lincoln’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program, you can save $5,000 to $10,000 by allowing the City to replace the line for you.
Your water service line is the pipe that connects your home to the City of Lincoln water system. The property owner owns the service line. Homes built before 1950 may have water service lines made of lead or lead-contaminated galvanized pipe. Lincoln Water System is offering to replace these old service lines at no cost to property owners.
