Celebrate Trails Day & Trail Clean-Up Day

Parks & Recreation Announces Trails Clean Up Day Saturday, April 25th

The City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department invites community members to participate in a Trail Clean-Up Day on April 25. This event is a community-wide effort to help keep Lincoln’s extensive trail system clean, safe, and beautiful for all. Inspired by the national Celebrate Trails Day initiative and aligned with Lincoln’s commitment to environmental stewardship, this year’s event encourages residents to enjoy the outdoors while giving back to the spaces they love.

“Our trails connect us—to nature, to one another, and to the health of our community,” said Mike Comstock, Parks Operations Coordinator. “This cleanup effort is a simple and meaningful way for residents to help maintain the spaces they enjoy every day.”

There is no registration required. Community members are encouraged to:

  • Grab basic cleanup supplies (trash bags, gloves, water).
  •  Head out on any Lincoln trail at a time that works for them.
  • Collect litter along the path. Any litter collected may be disposed of in receptacles along trails or within parks.

The department will tally the total number of bags and approximate pounds collected to showcase the community’s collective impact.

For those looking for a longer-term volunteer opportunity, the City’s Adopt-A-Trail program offers the chance to adopt a section of trail for one year. Participants help with routine litter patrol and general stewardship along their adopted segment, supporting the ongoing care and appearance of Lincoln’s trail system. Those interested can find the application and details on the Parks & Recreation website.

Lincoln’s 186 mile trail network is one of the city’s most used and most appreciated amenities. Community-led efforts such as Trail Clean Up Day and the Adopt-A-Trail program help protect wildlife habitats, maintain safe and welcoming outdoor spaces for everyone in Lincoln to enjoy.
